BRIEF
Every customer can choose a CMS that fits their business needs like a glove, and we can help migrate their website in any direction. A customer requested our web agency to do a migration from Drupal 7 to WordPress.
CHALLENGES
We needed to carefully migrate the configuration and content between the two CMSs. The migration had to be accompanied with redesign based on the customer’s mockups. Links deserve special attention during a migration process because they carry a great SEO value. During the migration, we also needed to add a few new website elements.
SOLUTIONS
Our team performed the design and front-end development for desktop and mobile devices according to the mockup structure. We created the basic theme elements (header, footer, functions.php, connection of styles and scripts), then created and themed the templates for pages, records, and post archives. We also made a page with the basic theme settings (logo, background, colors, etc.)
To perform the migration from Drupal to WordPress, we formed export lists of Drupal content and data in valid JSON format for convenience. Then we performed the taxonomy script import to WordPress. Next, as one of the key steps in every migration, we imported the content from Drupal to WordPress.
We exported a list of links from Drupal and imported them to WordPress, while ensuring the proper WordPress link structure.
We also configured such features as the search, social media integration, contact form, and newsletter subscription.
RESULT OBTAINED
Our customer is happy with the migration that has been done seamlessly and fast. Their content specialists are using the Gutenberg editor in the WordPress 5 core — we have also given them a few bonus lessons about it. The updated design looks very stylish and new website elements make it more user-friendly.
